Thread: Potential Cabinet Conversion

    Default Potential Cabinet Conversion

I came across the following cabinet when doing some searching for cooler alternatives and can't get it out of my mind. I love the style and am going to look at it in person tomorrow. On the topic of doing a conversion, the two doors lock together using a spring loaded ball that provides enough friction to keep the doors closed. I am looking for some ideas on how to get a good seal. I would add some close cell foam tape (3m makes a few water resistent ones) around the border of the doors but I am concerned about where the two doors come together. The other idea would be to make another door inside when I line it with spanish cedar. Anyone have any other suggestions besides adding a post?

    Thanks,
    -Chad

Maybe add a "flap" of wood on the edge of one of the doors. You would have to open/close the doors accordingly, but you could put some weatherstriping to it and create a tight seal.

I finally had a chance to see this in person. The cabinet was made overseas and is of extermly poor construction. The drawers are all butt joints; the sides and top are only a 1/4" thick; the fit and finish were of something a first time woodworker could out do. So needless to say I will continue looking around.

Thanks for the suggestions, overlapping flap would have likely worked out well.

    Thanks,
