Amelie is a French film by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, made in 2001. Unimpressed with the "typical" life she "should" be leading, she invents a life for herself which fits her whimsical understanding of reality. She works as a waitress in Paris, amused by the passers-by of her everyday life.

She finds a box in her apartment of items that belonged to someone who used to live in her apartment. Unable (and moreso, unwilling) to curb the desire to love, she eventually finds herself love in a meaningful way and makes the life of hers, which seems on the surface dull, into a grandoise existence.

The overwhelming message here is: LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. The whimsical nature of the story is further accentuated by Amelie's beautiful simplicity and enormous eyes. Cute film, not a chic-flick, but definitely not for the kids.

Overall, I give this a:
